The main components of glass cotton fiber are silicon dioxide, alumina, calcium oxide, boron oxide, magnesium oxide, sodium oxide, etc. According to the amount of alkali content in the glass, it can be divided into alkali free glass fiber (sodium oxide 0% ~ 2%,  Aluminum-borosilicate glass), medium alkali glass fiber (sodium oxide 8% ~ 12%, sodium calcium silicate glass with or without boron) and high alkali glass fiber (sodium oxide more than 13%, sodium calcium silicate glass).  

According to shape and length, glass fiber can be divided into continuous fiber, fixed-length fiber and glass wool;  According to the composition of glass, it can be divided into non-alkali, chemical resistance, high alkali, medium alkali, high strength, high elastic modulus and alkali resistance glass fiber.  

The raw materials for the production of glass fiber are natural mineral materials without formaldehyde: quartz sand, dolomite, sand, pyrophyllite, mirabilite, fluorite and so on.  Production methods are roughly divided into two categories: one is the molten glass directly into fiber;  One is the molten glass first made into a diameter of 20mm glass ball or rod, and then heated remelted in a variety of ways made into a diameter of 3 ~ 80μm of very fine fiber.  Through platinum alloy plate to mechanical drawing method of infinite length of fiber, known as continuous glass fiber, known as long fiber.  The discontinuous fiber made by roller or air flow is called fixed length glass fiber, generally known as short fiber.  By centrifugal force or high-speed airflow made of thin, short, flocculent fiber, known as glass wool.  After processing, glass fiber can be made into a variety of forms of products, such as glass wool board.
